Santiago-Lastra Y, et al. - This paper dealt with the analysis of the urologic follow-up and prevalence of medical complications among adult myelomeningocele (MMC) patients in the United States who were Medicare beneficiaries. Owing to the high prevalence of complications in MMC patients, most did not receive the minimum recommended follow-up. The 33.5% of patients who received adequate surveillance were diagnosed with more complications, possibly secondary to improved disease ascertainment. The analysis of follow-up strategies and the measure for improving outcomes for MMC patients needed advanced research.
