Urolithin A inhibits epithelial-mesenchymal transition in lung cancer cells via P53-Mdm2-Snail pathway
OncoTargets and Therapy May 28, 2021
Cheng F, Dou J, Zhang Y, et al. - Researchers investigated how urolithin A, a major metabolite from pomegranate ellagitannins, could impact Snail (a zinc finger transcriptional repressor) expression as well as epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process. Via wound healing assay and cell invasion assay, experts inquired about the role of Snail in urolithin A-induced EMT inhibition in lung cancer cells. Urolithin A dose-dependently upregulated epithelial marker as well as reduced mesenchymal markers in lung cancer cells. Cell migratory and invasive capacity were reduced by exposure to urolithin A. As inferred based on this study’s findings, the EMT process could be inhibited by urolithin A via controlling mainly Snail expression. Pomegranate’s role in regulation of EMT program in pulmonary malignancy was highlighted by findings.
