Urine neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin and other biomarkers in infants with urinary tract infection and in febrile controls
Pediatric Nephrology Oct 11, 2017
Valdimarsson S, et al. - This study appraised eight urine biomarkers, including neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), as diagnostic tools for urinary tract infection (UTI) in infants. Findings suggested that UTI diagnosis among febrile infants can be aided by assessing urine biomarkers, particularly NGAL. Overall, fever and high NGAL most likely denote UTI in infants, whereas, low NGAL with fever calls for the investigation of other causes of fever.
