Urinary liver‐type fatty acid‐binding protein is independently associated with graft failure in outpatient kidney transplant recipients
American Journal of Transplantation Apr 03, 2021
Yepes‐Calderón M, Sotomayor CG, Pena M, et al. - A cohort of 638 outpatient kidney transplant recipients with a functional graft ≥1‐year was analyzed to determine if urinary liver‐type fatty acid‐binding protein (uL‐FABP) is related to graft failure and if it improves risk prediction. Independent of potential confounders such as estimated glomerular filtration rate and proteinuria, a prospective link of uL‐FABP with the risk of graft failure was evident. Besides demonstrating excellent discrimination ability for graft failure, uL‐FABP conferred significant improvement of c‐statistic to 0.89 when added to a prediction model composed by established clinical predictors of graft failure. These findings were robust to various sensitivity analyses.
