Urinary epidermal growth factor predicts renal prognosis in antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis
Annals of Rheumatic Diseases May 11, 2018
Wu L, et al. - Researchers probed the relationship between urinary epidermal growth factor (uEGF) and renal disease severity and outcomes in patients with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis (AAV). Findings suggested an association of lower uEGF/Cr levels with more severe renal disease, renal resistance to treatment and higher risk of progression to composite outcome in patients with AAV. Compared to patients with active disease, the level of uEGF/Cr was significantly higher in patients in remission, both when looking at patients with sequential measurements and in cross-sectional comparison. Significantly lower uEGF/Cr levels were seen in patients with resistant renal disease than responders.
