Urinary clusterin—a novel urinary biomarker associated with pediatric lupus renal histopathologic features and renal survival
Pediatric Nephrology Mar 15, 2018
Wu CY, et al. - In pediatric systemic lupus erythematous (SLE) patients, researchers assessed the ability of urinary biomarkers to predict lupus-related renal histopathologic features and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), with an aim of bypassing renal biopsy. The emergence of urinary biomarkers as non-invasive indicators for lupus-related renal histopathology and renal outcome prediction in pediatric SLE patients was reported. Notably, urinary clusterin represents a newly identified biomarker which serves as an indicator in such cases. It not only demonstrated an association with tubulointerstitial renal lesions but also the best ability to predict ESKD.
