Uric acid to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio predicts cardiovascular mortality in patients on peritoneal dialysis
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Oct 19, 2020
Liu R, Peng Y, Wu H, et al. - Researchers investigated the link of uric acid to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (UHR) with cardiovascular (CV) mortality in patients receiving peritoneal dialysis (PD) in this retrospective cohort study. This analysis included 1,953 eligible incident patients who started PD treatment; among these, 14.9% were older than 65 years, 24.6% had diabetes, and 59.4% were male. A median follow-up period of 61.3 months was performed which revealed 567 deaths, of which 274 (48.3%) were due to CV death. Findings revealed that in PD patients, increased risk of all-cause and CV mortality was predicted by an elevated UHR. It was shown in subgroup analysis that PD patients with age ≥ 65 years, malnutrition (albumin < 35 g/L), diabetes, and CVD history, exhibited a remarkable association of UHR with CV mortality.
