Uric acid stones increase the risk of chronic kidney disease

Urolithiasis Mar 08, 2018

Li CC, et al. - The clinical characteristics of uric acid stones and their potential risk for chronic kidney disease (CKD) were compared in this trial. Much lower pH of urine and higher serum uric acid level were noted in the patients with uric acid stones. Worse eGFR was noted in those with uric acid stones than those with non-uric acid stones. Hence, a relationship existed between uric acid stones and higher prevalence of CKD. During follow-up, patients with uric acid stones could require close monitoring of renal function.
