Urban densification and 12-year changes in cardiovascular risk markers
Journal of the American Heart Association Jul 31, 2019
Chandrabose M, et al. - Using data from the Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle Study, researchers assessed how cardiovascular risk markers among Australian adults are potentially influenced by urban densification—defined as population-density increases in urban areas—in this longitudinal investigation. The study sample included 2,354 individuals with a mean age of 51 years at baseline who did not change their residence during the study period. Findings were suggestive of a possible protective impact of urban densification on obesity risk but possible adverse impacts on blood lipids and blood pressure, at least in the context of Australia.
