International Journal of Infectious Diseases Jan 14, 2021
Palumbo PJ, Zhang P, Clarke W, et al. - Researchers followed HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW) in sub-Sarahan Africa for 12 months with the aim to determine antiretroviral (ARV) drug use, viral suppression, and drug resistance in this cohort. The assessed a total of 64 participants with HIV (39 MSM, 24 TGW, one gender not specified). During the follow-up period, this cohort had more than double use of ARV drugs along with nearly tripled viral suppression rates and with no significant increase of HIV drug resistance. Observall findings suggest that this high-risk population can have successful implementation of ART scale up.
