Upregulation of miR-330-5p is associated with carotid plaque’s stability by targeting Talin-1 in symptomatic carotid stenosis patients
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Jun 23, 2019
Wei X, et al. - Researchers focused on the link between Talin-1 and stability of carotid atherosclerosis plaque. They also investigated the role of miRNA, as an upstream regulator, in regulating the expression level of Talin-1. From 20 symptomatic carotid stenosis patients, they obtained human carotid plaques. Using Western blot analysis and immunohistochemistry, each plaque sample was assessed for distribution and expression level of Talin-1. In human unstable carotid plaque samples vs stable carotid plaques, a significant downregulation of Talin-1 was found. Talin-1 was principally distributed in the fibrous cap of carotid plaque. In symptomatic carotid stenosis patients, unstable carotid plaques could result from upregulated miR-330-5p, via targeting Talin-1. This is suggested as a possible novel target for the management of atherosclerotic diseases through future investigations.
