Upregulation of circulating miR130a is correlated with development of Barrett’s esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma
OncoTargets and Therapy Dec 25, 2018
Wang L, et al. - Researchers investigated circulating miRNAs for their potential as biomarkers for Barrett’s esophagus (BE) neoplastic progression to esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) via performing a systematic screening approach identifying spectrum miRNAs in the serum of both BE and EAC patients. Serum samples of BE and EAC patients displayed significantly upregulated miR130a compared to those of healthy controls. Compared to individuals with metaplasia, low-grade and high-grade dysplasia BE patients displayed an increase in serum miR130a. Further, there appeared a gradual increase miR130a expression levels from early-stage (I, II) to advanced-stage (III, IV) EAC patients. These results suggest that circulating miR130a is correlated with the development of BE and EAC.
