Upregulation of AKIP1 contributes to metastasis and progression and predicts poor prognosis of patients with colorectal cancer

OncoTargets and Therapy Oct 18, 2018

Jiang W, et al. - A kinase-interacting protein 1 (AKIP1) protein expression and its correlation with clinicopathological features, as well as prognosis, was investigated in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. By means of immunohistochemical analysis using tissue microarrays of CRC, researchers determined AKIP1 protein expression. To knock down AKIP1 expression and determine the influence of AKIP1 on CRC cell migration by transwell analysis, an siRNA approach was used. Findings suggested a possible contribution of elevated AKIP1 expression to metastasis and progression of CRC. A significant correlation of high AKIP1 expression and shorter survival time was also seen in CRC. Overall, findings suggested that AKIP1 could have utility as a prognostic marker and a likely novel target for CRC treatment.
