Upregulated monocyte expression of PLIN2 is associated with early arterial injury in children with overweight/obesity
Atherosclerosis May 12, 2021
Pisano E, Pacifico L, Perla FM, et al. - Experts aspired to explore whether PLIN2 dysregulation is involved in the onset of preclinical atherosclerosis in children with overweight/obesity and to investigate dysregulation mechanisms. Sixty-three children with overweight/obesity and 21 children with normal weight (controls) of the same age and gender were enlisted. After adjusting for confounders, PLIN2 protein levels were significantly higher in children who were overweight/obese and correlated with cIMT. PLIN2 was found to be overexpressed in the monocytes of overweight/obese children, which could contribute to the onset of arteropathy. The findings suggest that PLIN2 overexpression may be exacerbated by proteasome dysfunction.
