Upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage is associated with poor outcomes among patients with acute cholangitis: A nationwide analysis

Bilal M, et al. - As gastroenterologists commonly encounter emergencies such as acute cholangitis (AC) and upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage (UGIH), researchers examined how UGIH influence in-hospital mortality, morbidity and resource utilization among patients with AC. From the National Inpatient Sample, they included a total of 50,375 admissions in the analysis; of these, 747 developed significant UGIH. Observations revealed a detrimental effect of the onset of significant UGIH on in-hospital mortality, morbidity, and resource utilization in these patients.
