Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty achieves greater flexion with no difference in functional outcome, quality of life and satisfaction versus total knee arthroplasty in patients less than 55 years old: A propensity score-matched cohort analysis
Journal of Arthroplasty Sep 26, 2017
Goh GSH, et al. - This study focused on the benefits of UKA in a young population (less than 55 years old), in comparison to TKA. The oft-cited benefit of UKA was not seemed to be perceived by younger patients due to lack of greater improvements in health-related quality of life or patient satisfaction compared to TKA, although these patients had preserved native knee biomechanics. Except for greater flexion up to 2 years postoperatively, no other theoretical advantages of UKA were proved in this study.
