Undiagnosed and untreated chronic kidney disease and its impact on renal outcomes in the Japanese middle-aged general population
Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health Oct 03, 2019
Yamada Y, et al. - Researchers examined the middle-aged Japanese population to quantify individuals with undiagnosed chronic kidney disease (CKD) as well as to clarify potential risks of untreated CKD. This study included 71,233 people who had a baseline and follow-up proteinuria and serum creatine measurements recorded in annual health check-ups in 2014. Findings revealed the presence of undiagnosed CKD in 5.2% of the middle-aged general population. A visit to physicians for CKD treatment was reported by only a few people. Lower risk of kidney disease progression may be seen in relation to visiting physicians for CKD treatment during the first 6 months following the screening.
