Underweight is the highest PICU mortality risk factor among all other weight categories
The Journal of Pediatrics Oct 31, 2020
Ross PA, et al. - Among critically ill children and young adults, researchers sought to analyze the risk of short-term mortality among underweight patients compared with patients in other weight groups. Mortality was 5.8%, 3.1%, 2.2%, and 1.8%, and 15.4%, 6.6%, 3.6%, and 4.7% for underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obese, respectively, in the overall cohort and for the sepsis subgroup. Findings suggested that underweight patients have a higher short-term mortality rate relative to all other weight groups.
