Understanding food-related allergic reactions through a US national patient registry
The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice Sep 25, 2020
Fierstein JL, Brown D, Gupta R, et al. - By examining surveys from the Patient Registry established by Food Allergy Research and Education, researchers investigated the frequency and context of food-related allergic reactions in children and adults. Having more than 1 food-associated allergic reaction per year was reported by over one-third of 4,075 (37.7%) respondents, and having 1 reaction per year was stated by 12.8%. Findings demonstrated that food-related allergic reactions were commonly reported among patients in a national food allergy registry, and the reported number of intentional reactions was non-negligible. These data suggest the necessity for investigation on reactions in and out of the emergency department as well as intentional risk-taking behavior.
