Underdiagnosis of dementia: An observational study of patterns in diagnosis and awareness in US older adults
Journal of General Internal Medicine Mar 09, 2018
Amjad H, et al. - This study incorporated the determination of characteristics related to dementia diagnosis and awareness of diagnosis in US elderly individuals. It was determined that maximum older adults with dementia were either undiagnosed or unaware of the diagnosis. This, in turn, hinted towards the shortcomings in detection and communication of dementia. Findings revealed that racial/ethnic minorities and those with lower educational attainment, any functional impairment, or who attended medical visits alone could gain a benefit from targeted screening.
