Unacylated ghrelin does not acutely affect substrate metabolism or insulin sensitivity in men with type 2 diabetes

Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism Feb 09, 2019

Vestergaard ET, et al. - Researchers tested in men with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) the effects of intravenous unacylated ghrelin (UAG) infusion on glucose and lipid metabolism, insulin sensitivity and energy expenditure. For this randomized double blind and placebo-controlled crossover study, 10 men with T2DM completed two days of study: 6-h UAG (1 microgram/kg/h) infusion and 6-h placebo (PL) infusion. By indirect calorimetry, energy expenditure was measured. In men with T2DM, native UAG exposure does not have acute metabolic effects. UAG has not affected either glucose oxidation, non-oxidative glucose disposal, lipolysis, expenditure on energy or exchange rates in the respiratory system.
