Ultrasound guidance vs the classical method for intrauterine insemination in oral medication-stimulated cycles: A randomized, single-blind, controlled trial
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Jan 15, 2021
Thanaboonyawat I, Charanwetprasert M, Boriboonhirunsarn D, et al. - The pregnancy rates of ultrasound-guided intrauterine insemination (UG-IUI) were compared with that of classical intrauterine insemination (C-IUI) cycles. Researchers randomized a total of 320 infertile women into an UG-IUI group, and a C-IUI group. An oral medication was administered to all participants for ovarian stimulation. The UG-IUI and C-IUI groups were similar regarding the pregnancy rates, with 6.9% and 6.3%, respectively. This suggest that for oral-medication stimulated cycles, no more increase in the pregnancy rate was evident with UG-IUI vs C-IUI. However, for multigravida women, tendency for increased pregnancy rate was observed with UG-IUI.
