Ultrasound evaluation of the airway in the ED: A feasibility study
Critical Ultrasound Journal Jan 25, 2018
Hall EA, et al. - Authors aimed at assessing the feasibility of ultrasound measurements of the upper airway performed in the Emergency Department (ED) by emergency physicians, the inter-rater reliability of such measurements, and their relationship with Mallampati score and body mass index (BMI). A standardized ultrasound scanning protocol demonstrated that in all but epiglottic thickness, emergency sonologists could measure the airway with good inter-operator reliability. The measurements were found to be correlated with Mallampati score but not with BMI.
