Ultrasound cyclo-plasty in patients with glaucoma: 1-year results from a multicentre prospective study
Ophthalmic Research May 27, 2018
Giannaccare G, et al. - Authors assessed the safety and effectiveness of ultrasound cyclo-plasty (UCP) for reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with glaucoma. They conducted a multicentre prospective study in 3 Italian glaucoma centres. Data suggested that for reducing IOP, UCP was safe and effective. In patients with higher preoperative IOP, greater IOP reduction was determined with this procedure. Outcomes were improved by second-generation probes without detrimental effects on safety. Researchers noted the decrease of mean IOP from 27.7 ± 9.2 to 19.8 ± 6.9 mm Hg, and the mean number of hypotensive drops and tablets decreased from 3.2 and 0.5 to 2.3 and 0.2, respectively.
