Ultrasound characteristics of early-stage high-grade serous ovarian cancer
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jun 04, 2021
Suh-Burgmann E, Brasic N, Jha P, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate the ultrasound findings correlated with clinically detected early-stage high-grade serous ovarian cancer. Between 2007 and 2017, researchers conducted a retrospective cohort study of women diagnosed with stage I or II high-grade serous ovarian or fallopian tube cancer measuring at least 1 cm at pathology. Three radiologists independently reviewed preoperative ultrasound examinations. Among 111 women distinguished, 4 had bilateral ovarian involvement, for a total of 115 adnexal masses defined by ultrasound assessment. The results demonstrate that the early-stage high-grade serous cancers are rarely presented as masses of < 5 cm or masses without solid components other than septations in this community-based cohort. The data provide further support for the observation of small masses without solid areas on ultrasound examination.
