Ultrasound assessment of gastric contents in children undergoing elective ear, nose and throat surgery: A prospective cohort study

Desgranges FP, et al. – This prospective observational study was designed to assess if marked changes occurred in gastric contents during the intra–operative period in children undergoing elective ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery. According to findings, children were not at risk of a full stomach before tracheal extubation post–ENT surgery. Furthermore, most likely no relation existed between pulmonary aspiration of blood, that may occur after elective ENT surgery, and regurgitation of ingested blood from the stomach.
