Type 2 endoleak with or without intervention and survival after endovascular aneurysm repair
European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Feb 26, 2021
Mulay S, Geraedts ACM, Koelemay MJW, et al. - Researchers here examined how type 2 endoleaks (T2EL) affect overall survival and determined the necessity for secondary intervention after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR). A total of 2,018 patients with an infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) who underwent EVAR were included in this multicenter retrospective cohort study. Patients with (T2EL+) and without (T2EL-) a T2EL did not exhibit any difference in overall survival. In addition, no better survival was reported for patients who underwent a secondary intervention compared with those who did not undergo a secondary intervention. Findings thereby affirm the necessity for conservative treatment of an isolated T2EL and the relevance of a prospective study to ascertain the possible benefits of the intervention.
