Two-year multicenter outcomes of iStent inject trabecular micro-bypass stents combined with phacoemulsification in various types of glaucoma and ocular hypertension
Clinical Ophthalmology Oct 30, 2020
Clement C, Howes F, Ioannidis AS, et al. - In this multicenter study, researchers sought to assess 2-year efficacy and safety following implantation of two second-generation trabecular micro-bypass stents (iStent inject) with phacoemulsification. It was a retrospective outcome assessment of pooled data from nine surgeons across Australia. In total, 340 eyes underwent surgery and had 24-month follow-up data. This 340-eye multicenter dataset offers robust proof of the safety and effectiveness of iStent inject implantation with phacoemulsification, with significant and sustained IOP and medication declines through 2 years. The findings were equally positive across subtypes of glaucoma and were attained across various glaucoma severities, clinical sites, and surgeons, demonstrating the real-world versatility and utility of this treatment modality.
