Two-center prospective comparison of the trocar and Seldinger techniques for percutaneous cholecystostomy
American Journal of Roentgenology Oct 11, 2019
Reppas L, Arkoudis NA, Spiliopoulos S, et al. - In this prospective noninferiority study, researchers compared bedside ultrasound (US)–guided trocar technique vs the US- and fluoroscopy-guided Seldinger technique with respect to safety and efficacy for percutaneous cholecystostomy (PC). There were 53 patients [28 men and 25 women] in the trocar group with mean [± SD] age of 74.31 ± 16.19 years. A total of 52 patients [26 men and 26 women] with a mean age of 79.92 ± 13.38 years were included in the Seldinger group. Technical success and procedure-related complication rates were assessed as primary endpoints. Findings revealed that the efficacy acquired from using bedside US-guided trocar technique for PC was equal to that provided by the Seldinger technique. Fewer procedure-related complications, less procedural time, and decreased postprocedural pain were observed in relation to the use of the former technique vs the latter.
