Two‐dimensional transvaginal sonography vs saline contrast sonohysterography for diagnosing endometrial polyps: Systematic review and meta‐analysis
Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology Sep 18, 2020
Sanin‐Ramirez D, Carriles I, Graupera B, et al. - Via performing a systematic review and meta‐analysis, researchers evaluated the diagnostic performance of two‐dimensional transvaginal sonography (TVS) vs saline contrast sonohysterography (SCSH) for the diagnosis of endometrial polyps. Searching Medline (PubMed), Cochrane Library and Web of Science, 1,278 citations were identified; after exclusions, 25 studies were included in the meta‐analysis. Findings indicated better diagnostic positive and negative likelihood ratios in correlation with SCSH vs TVS in both pre‐ and postmenopausal women. Hence, SCSH should be undertaken in cases with clinical suspicion of endometrial polyps if TVS findings are inconclusive.
