Tumor volume is better than diameter for predicting the prognosis of patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer
Annals of Surgical Oncology May 08, 2019
Xie HJ, et al. - Researchers investigated the predictive value of tumor volume (TV) vs diameter for the prognosis of patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) after complete resection. The clinicopathologic features of 274 patients with early-stage NSCLC with pretreatment computed tomography (CT) scans and complete resection were retrospectively reviewed. Three groups of patients were formed using 3.046 cm3 and 8.078 cm3 as optimal cutoff values of TV. The multivariable analysis revealed a significant correlation of a greater TV with poor DFS and OS. The results show a better predictive value of TV vs greatest tumor diameter for the prognosis of patients with early-stage NSCLC.
