Tumor microenvironment conditions alter Akt and Na+/H+ exchanger NHE1 expression in endothelial cells more than hypoxia alone: Implications for endothelial cell function in cancer
BMC Cancer Aug 19, 2017
Pedersen AK, et al. – The effects of hypoxia and tumor microenvironment (TME) conditions on the regulation of the Na+/H+ exchanger NHE1, Ser/Thr kinases Akt1Â3, and downstream effectors in endothelial cells, were compared. In comparison to hypoxia alone, NHE1 and Akt were downregulated by TME conditions, more potently. Moreover, it inhibited endothelial cell migration and growth in a manner likely modulated by the cancer cell secretome.
