Tumor-infiltrating CD8+ T-cell density is an independent prognostic marker for oral squamous cell carcinoma

Cancer Medicine Jan 06, 2019

Shimizu S, et al. - Researchers evaluated 139 candidates with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) to assess the relationships between tumor-infiltrating CD8+ T-cell density and survival in five separate compartments. They observed an association of high parenchymal CD8+ T-cell density at the invading tumor edge with improved overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival. High stromal CD8+ T-cell density at the tumor periphery was also noted in relation with improved recurrence-free survival. They concluded high stromal CD8+ T-cell density at the tumor periphery and high parenchymal CD8+ T-cell density at the invading edge as unconventional prognostic markers for recurrence-free survival and OS, respectively.
