Tumor characteristics, oncological and functional outcomes after radical prostatectomy in very young men ≤ 45 years of age
World Journal of Urology Apr 09, 2019
Tilki D, et al. - Data were investigated to study the tumor features and oncological as well as functional consequences following radical prostatectomy in very young males of age ≤ 45 years. They observed more favorable tumor characteristics in subjects with age ≤ 45 years when compared to their older counterparts. They recorded 5-year biochemical recurrence (BCR)-free survival and metastasis-free survival (MFS), 80.2% and 98.7% for subjects ≤ 45 years, 72.8% and 95.0% for outpatients > 45 years and ≤ 65 years whereas 70.5% and 94.9% for candidates > 65 years. They also found 1-year urinary continence (UC)-rates of 97.4%, 89.4%, and 84.7% for the same groups while 1.3%, 8.2%, and 11.6% used 1–2 pads/24 h. Among candidates who underwent bilateral nerve-sparing, 75.6%, 58.6%, and 45.3% of preoperatively potent patients at 1-year were considered efficient. They noticed younger age, an independent predictor of promising functional outcome.
