Tumor budding is associated with poor prognosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma and histologically represents an epithelial–mesenchymal transition process
Human Pathology Jun 27, 2018
Hong KO, et al. - Researchers identified whether tumor budding was correlated with the progression and prognosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and assessed the relationship between tumor budding and regulators of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Using archived hematoxylin and eosin-stained slides, 56 cases of OSCC were selected and their tumor budding status was reviewed. It was observed that tumor budding was significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis and shorter overall survival in subjects with OSCC, and histologically represents an EMT process in OSCC.
