Tuberculosis induced autoimmune haemolytic anaemia: A systematic review to find out common clinical presentations, investigation findings and the treatment options
Allergy, Asthma & Clinical Immunology Apr 07, 2018
Rathish D, et al. - The common presentations, investigation findings and treatment options for tuberculosis induced auto-immune haemolytic anaemia were studied through a systematic review of published reports. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) statement was used for systematic review and the CARE guidelines were used for quality assessment. Out of total cases examined, fever and pallor were present in more than half. The mean haemoglobin was 5.77 g/dl (SD 2.2). In all patients, positive direct Coombs test was seen. Along with the anti-tuberculosis medicines, additional treatment options included blood transfusion and steroids. This rare entity should be looked for especially in disease-endemic areas.
