Triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio as a surrogate for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: A cross-sectional study

Lipids in Health and Disease Feb 09, 2019

Fan N, et al. - Researchers investigated how the triglycerides (TG) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio (TG/HDL-C) correlates to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in an apparently healthy population. They analyzed a total of 18,061 subjects who participated in a health checkup program and diagnosed NAFLD by ultrasonography. In the whole population, 24.8% exhibited NAFLD. The prevalence rate progressively increased across the quartiles of TG/HDL-C. Outcomes thus suggest the independent association of TG/HDL-C with NAFLD in apparently healthy individuals and a possible utility of the ratio as a surrogate for NAFLD.
