Tricuspid regurgitation is associated with increased mortality independent of pulmonary pressures and right heart failure: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Heart Journal Oct 26, 2018
Wang N, et al. - Researchers investigated the impact of tricuspid regurgitation (TR) severity on mortality in this systematic review and meta-analysis. They analyzed 70 studies reporting clinical outcomes of 32,601 patients, with a mean (±SD) follow-up of 3.2 ± 2.1 years. Findings revealed a two-fold increased mortality risk in association with moderate/severe TR vs no/mild TR. In addition, moderate/severe TR was noted to be linked with higher cardiac mortality and heart failure hospitalization. The associations appear to be independent of pulmonary pressures and right ventricular dysfunction. Patients with mild, moderate, and severe TR had an increasingly higher risk of all-cause mortality when compared to patients with no TR.
