Trichomoniasis and adverse birth outcomes: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology May 29, 2021
Van Gerwen OT, Craig-Kuhn MC, Jones AT, et al. - Researchers aimed at elucidating if trichomoniasis in pregnant women is associated with adverse birth outcomes, including preterm delivery, pre-labour rupture of membranes, and low birth weight. From MEDLINE, EMBASE, and ClinicalTrials.gov, they obtained 1,658 publications after removal of duplicates (n = 770), with 5 additional publications by performing hand search. After screening titles and abstracts for relevance, they reviewed the full text of 84 studies and inclusion criteria for meta-analysis were met by 19 studies. Findings support the correlation of trichomoniasis in pregnant women with preterm delivery, prelabor rupture of membranes, and low birth weight.
