Trends of lymph node sampling and metastasis in pediatric and young adult patients with clear cell, epithelioid, and synovial sarcomas
Pediatric Blood & Cancer Jan 05, 2022
Weller JH, Westermann C, Patel P, et al. - Risk for lymph node metastasis appears high in correlation with the following rare tumors: clear cell sarcoma of soft tissue (CCS), epithelioid sarcoma, and synovial sarcoma. Children and young adults with these subtypes were investigated for incident nodal metastasis and associated survival.
A retrospective cohort of 1,303 patients (aged ≤ 25 years), who received local control therapy for CCS, epithelioid sarcoma, and synovial sarcoma, was generated using the National Cancer Database (2004–2015).
Children and young adults with synovial sarcoma rarely had lymph node metastasis.
Patients with CCS or epithelioid sarcoma did not receive lymph node sampling procedures consistently, but the procedure is linked with improved OS thus its routine implementation in children and young adults with CCS is supported.
