Trends of cervical cancer at global, regional, and national level: Data from the Global Burden of Disease study 2019
BMC Public Health May 16, 2021
Zhang X, Zeng Q, Cai W, et al. - Researchers used data from the Global Burden of Disease study, 2019, to examine trends in cervical cancer at the global, regional, as well as national levels from 1990 to 2019, to inform health service decision-making. On global level, declining trends in incidence, death, and disability adjusted life years (DALYs) of cervical cancer were evident from 1990 to 2019, with respective estimated annual percentage changes of − 0.38, − 0.93, and − 0.95. At the national level, most countries/territories exhibited decreasing trends in cervical cancer, especially DALYs in the Maldives, whereas Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and Bulgaria showed increasing trends. Findings revealed gradually decreasing trends in cervical cancer globally from 1990 to 2019. Cervical cancer continues to be a substantial health issue for females worldwide, needing more effective prophylactic and control strategies.
