Trends in transcatheter and operative closure of patent ductus arteriosus in neonatal intensive care units: Analysis of data from the Pediatric Health Information Systems Database
American Heart Journal Aug 24, 2019
O'Byrne ML, Millenson ME, Grady CB, et al. - Researchers analyzed trends in the tendencies for mechanical closure of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and transcatheter PDA closure (TC-PDA) vs operative closure of patent ductus arteriosus (O-PDA) and inter-hospital difference in practice in this multicenter observational study including infants managed in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). The Pediatric Health Information Systems Database was used. Findings revealed a significant increase was seen in the proportion in which TC-PDA was used (0.1% in 2007 to 29.0% in 2017). A dramatic rise in the use of TC-PDA was noted, with significant practice variability.
