Trends in oral antibiotic prescription in dermatology, 2008 to 2016
JAMA Mar 20, 2019
Barbieri JS, et al. - Between 2008 and 2016, researchers studied the relation of the most common pattern in diagnosis with oral antibiotic prescription by dermatologists, as well as the duration of its use. A decline of 36.6% (1.23 courses per 100 visits) in overall antibiotic prescribing among dermatologists from 3.36 to 2.13 courses per 100 visits with a dermatologist. They showed concern about the rising use of postoperative antibiotics after surgical visits as it might put the subjects at additional risk of adverse events.
