Trends in diagnoses among hospitalizations of HIV-infected children and adolescents in the United States: 2003â2012
The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal Sep 27, 2017
Hurst SA, et al. - In this work, researchers sought to update a previous analysis of trends in hospitalizations of HIV-infected children and adolescents in the United States. There appeared a decline in the number of hospitalizations for HIV-infected children from 2003 to 2012. A decline in the prevalence of several discharge diagnoses and lower risk of death during hospitalization likely suggest improvements in HIV therapies and increased uptake of other preventive strategies. However, the increasing prevalence of discharge diagnoses for bacterial infections/sepsis warrants further attention and monitoring.
