Trends in acute myocarditis related pediatric hospitalizations in the United States, 2007–2016
The American Journal of Cardiology Apr 15, 2021
Vasudeva R, Bhatt P, Lilje C, et al. - This retrospective, serial cross-sectional study was conducted to analyze trends in acute myocarditis attributable pediatric hospitalizations in the United States (US) from 2007 to 2016. The National Inpatient Sample database from 2007 to 2016 was used to find patients ≤18 years hospitalized with acute myocarditis. There were 60,390,000 weighted pediatric hospitalizations, of these, 6,371 were associated with myocarditis. Findings revealed a reduction in in-hospital mortality related to pediatric acute myocarditis in the US over years 2007 to 2016 with a concurrent increase in incidence. Although length of stay remained steady, an increase in hospitalization costs has been documented.
