Trends and comparative effectiveness of inpatient radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer in the United States (2012–2015)
Gynecologic Oncology Nov 17, 2018
Uppal S, et al. - The trends in surgical approaches for cervical cancer were analyzed in this study, and open and minimally invasive routes were compared in terms of outcomes. Researchers used the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) dataset between 2012 and 2015 to identify the cases of radical Hysterectomy (RH). These cases were categorized into abdominal (ARH) and Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS). The subdivisions of the MIS group were “Laparoscopic”, “Robotic”, and “Converted”. Findings revealed remarkably lower perioperative complications for MIS procedures. While performing contemporary cost-effective analysis and comprehensive counseling regarding risks and benefits of the surgical approach for cervical cancer, these data should be taken into account.
