Trend over time in hepatic fibrosis score in a cohort of type 2 diabetes patients

Giorda CB, et al. - In this work, the percentage of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients who progress to fibrosis and the factors associated with disease progression were delineated. Researchers observed a non-negligible prevalence of and progression to hepatic fibrosis within 3 years in patients with T2DM. Differently from nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, the Fibrosis-4 score seemed to have inverse correlation with insulin resistance and appeared to increase independent of classic metabolic factors.
