Trend of various adiposity indices in women with and without history of gestational diabetes: A population-based cohort study
BMC Endocrine Disorders Feb 23, 2019
Behboudi-Gandevani S, et al. - Using data from the long term longitudinal population-based Tehran-Lipid and Glucose-Study (TLGS), researchers assessed overtime trends of adiposity indices in 3,395 women (aged 20-50 years) with vs without a history of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). They applied generalized estimating equations to evaluate the time trend of adiposity indices including obesity, central obesity, body mass index (BMI), lipid accumulation product index, visceral adiposity index, and a body shape index in women with prior GDM and the non-GDM groups after further adjustment for age and BMI. Investigators found that women with previous GDM had better control over their adiposity vs women who did not have GDM. However, the growing number of people with GDM and uncontrolled adiposity indices requires prompt attention.
