Treatments and outcomes of generalized pustular psoriasis: A cohort of 1,516 patients in a nationwide inpatient database in Japan
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Jun 12, 2021
Miyachi H, Konishi T, Kumazawa R, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for reporting treatments and outcomes in a large cohort of hospitalized patients with generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP). From July 2010 to March 2019, 1,516 patients with GPP who required hospitalization were identified using a Japanese national inpatient database. Patients were categorized into three medication groups: biologics (n = 294), oral agents without biologics (n = 948), or systemic corticosteroids only (n = 274). Biologics recipients were younger, had fewer comorbidities, and had lower in-hospital mortality and morbidity. Among those who received biologics, the use of IL-17 inhibitors increased over time and had comparable in-hospital mortality and morbidity to TNF inhibitors. When compared with other treatments, biologic treatments produced better results.
