Treatment outcome of acute sacral nerve stimulation in functional anorectal pain
Pain Practice Jan 04, 2019
Rongqing G, et al - The treatment effect of sacral nerve stimulation (SNS) in improving functional anorectal pain (FAP) symptoms was evaluated via investigating a total of 120 patients with FAP who had undergone temporary SNS probe placement at Qianfoshan Hospital between January 2014 and December 2016. The patients proceeded to insertion of an SNS probe at the S3 nerve root (2 Hz, 1.50 mA, 0.10 milliseconds). Among these, a cure was achieved in 75 patients, an improvement was noted in 41 patients, and outcomes were ineffective in 4 patients. These positive effects of SNS in treating FAP led researchers to support SNS as worthy of clinical promotion.
